The Event: RPT Training Series

Dates & Times:

June 14, 2024, 12:30-2:30pm

June 28, 2024, 12:30-2:30pm

July 12, 2024, 12:30-2:30pm

July 26, 2024, 12:30-2:30pm

Where: The group space at Joe’s office, located at 5060 Cascade Rd SE, Ste D, Grand Rapids, MI 49546

Description: This series offers clinicians the chance to engage in discussion and exploration of relational patterns being repeated unconsciously in the therapeutic relationship. I will facilitate a group of up to four other therapists, and we will use the MAMAL method to work through case consultations that each of the participants will bring in turn. The model is experience-first, so the theoretical learning comes at the end of each consult rather than the beginning. The primary focus of exploration will be the affect of each therapist in the room, rather than their thoughts.

Learning Objectives:

1) Participants will be able to recognize and describe the thoughts and feelings they have about their patients.

2) Participants will be able to describe the ways in which their thoughts and feelings about their patients regularly affect the work they do with those patients.

3) Participants will be able to give a therapeutic articulation of their experience of their patients to their patients.

Target Audience: Any person licensed in Michigan to provide counseling or psychotherapy. This generally includes Counselors, Social Workers, LMFTs, and Psychologists.

Instructor Bio: I (Joe) am a psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice in Grand Rapids. I have been working in private practice 6 years, and have spent three of them completing the certificate program with the Contemporary Psychodynamic Institute. I’ve found a very rich, engaging, inspiring community at CPI, and I want to build a similar community of psychodynamic psychotherapists in West Michigan.
